This class has three objectives. The first is to introduce students to the much misunderstood and misused category of analysis called “gender”. The second is to show students how using this category of analysis has transformed our understanding of the familiar fields of political theory, political life and political institutions. The third aim of the class is to develop students’ essay-writing abilities. For the final evaluation, students are invited to choose from a list of essay questions. Essays are written in the students’ own time and are expected to meet the highest academic standards. Training in how to find, organize and use academically relevant sources is provided throughout the semester.
