What you will know by the end of this course:

• You can describe the term “culture” and give different examples of elements that shape it.
• You will know to recognize elements that define culture.
• You will know about high context and low context cultures
• You will be able to give examples of behaviour from people coming from a high context and low context culture.
• You will be able to name other elements that describe culture.
• You will be aware of the differences between social phenomena and culture.

• You will have strategies and methodologies to help you enter new cultural environments.
• You will know what the Bennett scale represents.
• You will have heard of Erin Meyer and understand what it means when she speaks of the “relativity of cultural differences”.

• You will know the difference between implicit and explicit communication and use them more conscientiously in situations.

• You will have gained a better understanding of what communication is made of, and especially be aware of your active listening skills and what they can help you to achieve.
• You will have gained awareness of your own culture and how people with different cultures might perceive you.
• You will be more effective when interacting in culturally diverse environments.
